ta·ka·he (tə-käē, tə-kī)
Either of two flightless birds of New Zealand in the rail family, Porphyrio mantelli, which is extinct, and Porphyrio hochstetteri, which is endangered, having a large red bill and brightly colored green and blue plumage.
