Some compound words (like bus rapid transit, dog whistle, or identity theft) don’t appear on the drop-down list when you type them in the search bar. For best results with compound words, place a quotation mark before the compound word in the search window.

A colorless liquid, C₁₅H₂₄O, occurring in two isomeric forms, obtained from sandalwoods of the genus Santalum and used in perfumes and cosmetics and as a flavoring.

[New Latin Santalum, sandalwood genus (from Medieval Latin santalum, sandalwood; see SANDAL²) + -OL(E).]
