Some compound words (like bus rapid transit, dog whistle, or identity theft) don’t appear on the drop-down list when you type them in the search bar. For best results with compound words, place a quotation mark before the compound word in the search window.

An antibiotic, C₃₇H₆₇NO₁₃, obtained from a strain of the actinomycete Saccharopolyspora erythraea and used chiefly to treat infections caused by gram-positive bacteria.

[New Latin erythrēus, former specific epithet (from Latin erythraeus, reddish, from Greek eruthraios, from eruthros, red; see ERYTHRO-) + -MYCIN.]
